This little project took shape
in November of 2002 when I came across a neglected lawnmower in a flea
market. I bought it for $25 and proceeded to work on converting it to
hydrogen. It is similar to an example built by my mentor, Roy McAlister. I
wanted mine mounted in a wagon so I could easily transport it for
lectures. List of materials includes: |
1- Briggs &
Stratton Engine - $25 1- Wagon - $39 1- Swagelok SS valve - $49 1- Hydrogen tank and Regulator - $300 (1800psi) 1- 13" X 31" sheet of 1/8" aluminum - $18 3' of 1/8" copper line - $3 Vastly over budget of course, but I wanted new stuff the first time out. I rationalize the cost as the 'entrance fee' for my "education". Today I could probably scrounge stuff on E-Bay for 1/3 the cost. The engine was rebuilt and the pull starter replaced. I have already made good use of the wagon in hydrogen lectures. Anyway it was a fun learning experience and nothing can replace the satisfaction of firing it up for the first time! Future plans: add on an AC generator. Webmaster |
